September, 2008

If it's September, it's time for a boat ride to watch the Cleveland Air Show from the harbor. We're on our way, with Andrew at the helm (right; notice the throttle is advanced all the way!) and Penney, Emily and Sophie (above) holding on for dear life!

The Cleveland waterfront is quite scenic. Pictured above are the Browns' stadium (on the left) and the "retired" steamship William G. Mather (now a maritime museum) on the right. The Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame and Museum and Great Lakes Science Center are in there somewhere, too.

September is also "Back-to-School" time for Penney. She spotted some very inexpensive, but nice-looking desktop hutches at a local discount store and bought four of them for her desk at school (side-by-side and top and bottom). Only problem was, you couldn't stack two of them side-by-side and still stay on the desk.

Because they are assembled with cams and cam bolts, Bob had to "retroengineer" two of the originals (left) into ones which would fit (right). The results are completely satisfying and Penney's the envy of the staff!

September is also "go to high-school football games" month, as we follow the "Fighting Colts" of Cloverleaf High School, where Andrew is Assistant Band Director. (For non-Ohioans, "Cloverleaf" is a large consolidated system, serving a number of communities in southern Medina County. The school campus is located a few miles from the intersection of north-south Interstate Route 71 and east-west IR-76.)

On September 26, Andrew's 8th-Grade Band students joined the high school band at the Homecoming game. It was an exciting game. Cloverleaf, which was undefeated on the season so far, won the game by one point against a powerful rival (Tallamdge, which later advanced to the State semifinals; Cloverleaf's late-season record suffered after their first-string quarterback was sidelined with a fractured clavicle in a later game). The photo is of the cheerleaders waiting for the team in the game against the Lorain-Southview "Saints" on September 5th.
