March, 2009

March was taken up with several activities of the Berea Power Squadron, part of the United States Power Squadrons, a boating safety-and-education group to which we belong. Bob attended a seminar on using electronics for navigation purposes — it was probably the most well-taught and useful USPS course he's had. Later that month, we attended the BPS "Recognition Brunch" at the Sandusky Yacht Club (always a neat site for anything!), and still later, Bob attended the semiannual Spring Convention of USPS District 7, held this year in Washington, PA. He usually gets called on to give various Invocations, Blessings and so forth.

March is also the month for Andrew's bands to participate in the "Music In Our Schools" month concert, which is always a real treat for us to attend. Andrew chooses really great music: challenging enough to be interesting but not so difficult that the kids get discouraged . . . and it always sounds like "real music," too.

Bob also gave a memorial eulogy for former parishioner Bill Rimko, who died suddenly, and spent a frustrating day trying to help former parishioner Mary Bryant (a refugee from Liberia) to get a renewal of her Ohio Driver License. You really need a State Department representative with you, apparently! (The good news is that Mary eventually found a branch office which understood her situation and renewed her license.)

March was also the month when Penney cranked up her search for a new car. We attended the Cleveland Auto Show, and got a picture of her in her "dream car," a Porche. In order to impress the teenage girls in her classes, we did a bit of Photoshopping to make it a yellow Porche — the kind of car driven by the vampire in the twilight series of books and movies, which has enthralled almost all young women between the ages of twelve and twenty.

Bob sits at his laptop during the "Computer-Assisted Navigation" class, sponsored by BPS early in March. The Instructor is Sam Insalaco, who will become Commander of the squadron next year.

Andrew gives the downbeat at the "Music In Our Schools" concert.

Penney and Porche both start with "P." Coincidence? We don't think so!
