August, 2010

We add a third grandchild to the family with the birth of Adalyn Leigh Winter to Emily and Andrew. Nothing could be bigger news, of course, but we also get a visit in with Michael and George before we dash from Vermont and across New York and Pennsylvania to see our new granddaughter. And just to make it a perfect month, we take a week to head up to Minneapolis to see the Minnesota Grandchildren before Penney has to return to school.

We also had a chance to visit Paul in his new Shaker Square penthouse apartment, including an alfresco dinner in the rooftop garden, which offers a magnificent view of the east side of Cleveland and great sunsets!

Here we are outside Trinity Church, Rutland, with Michael and George, who both sing in the choir (their choir sings through pretty much the whole summer, too!).

After church we went to their home for the usual fabulous meal!

And here is our Adalyn!

Is this a proud Dad, or what?

Paul's apartment (left) is a little light on furniture and a little heavy on electronics!

The view of the Cleveland skyline at sunset, however, is fabulous (right)

His building is across the street from the building which housed the apartment of the 10th Bishop of Ohio, J. Clark Grew, II. (above, right).

We were able to get a couple of these in during the month.

Our trip to Minneapolis was a great one! The drive was easy, the scenery peerless, and we had lots of time with the grandkids. We took Caitlin to the Mall of America for a half-day or so, and got her an early birthday present: a still-in-the-box Singer sewing machine. Cait had found a dress she loved, but which was several sizes too large; not to worry! With a little help from Penney she modified it (results pictured below).

We also had a chance to share a wonderful fish-and-chips dinner with Jeff and CeCe's friends Gina and Greg, and Gina's three children: Nick, Sophie and Rachel. We felt right at home at the restaurant, "The Anchor"!

Olivia laughs a lot. And when she isn't laughing, she may well be asleep:

Yes, they're twins!

"The Anchor," a Northeast Minneapolis restaurant, has what is probably the best fish-and-chips I've ever had. We were joined by Jeff, CeCe, Caitlin and Olivia and their friends Gina Caprella and Greg Christiansen and Gina's son, Nick and twin daughters, Sophie and Rachel.

At the right, Penney holds Olivia while waiting for dinner to arrive,

Christopher, Carly and Alexander weren't able to join us, which was a shame, because we had to leave the next morning. But we'll be back for another visit before long.

Bob learned that it is possible to eat an entire fish-and-chips meal with one hand, while holding your sleeping granddaughter in the other arm.
