September, 2009

September means the beginning of work for Penney and Andrew, but before things really get into gear, there's always Labor Day. We celebrated with a sail (one of the few we were able to get in this summer). And the Great Car Hunt goes on for Penney!

On September 11, Bob (as Chaplain to the Berea Fire Department) gives the Invocation, Memorial Prayer and Benediction at the 9/11 observances conducted by the city's safety forces and the local VFW post.

Andrew (he's actually got the helm, but you can't see the wheel).

Rag Time lies ready and waiting for us.

Later in the season, just before haulout, it got flooded when the bilge pump switch was inadvertently left in the "OFF" position. The water fried the battery charger and did some cosmetic damage, but I think we can put everything to rights come spring.

Paul, always happy to be aboard.

Penney perches on the swim platform and relaxes with some grog.

The "house burgee" of the Aloha Owners' Association, an informal group of the owners of Aloha yachts, which were manufactured in Whitby, Ontario(just east of Toronto) during the 1970s and 1980s.

Aloha made a lot of 27' and 28' cruising yachts, and a lot of 32' and even 34' yachts, but only about 30 of the 30'ers, of which Rag Time is Hull # 10.

They are known for being well-built, nicely-finished boats by well-known sailboat designers (the A30 was designed by Ron Holland).

We bought Rag Time in 2005, from the second owner, a resident of Whitby who never lost a Whitby Yacht Club race with her! While we don't race, we like it that she goes fast for her size (sailboat speed is a function of the length of the waterline).

You can tell by looking who does all the work, right?

The band on the field at an early home game. They went to the State Band Competition again this year and received a "II - Excellent" rating.

The band relaxes during the 3rd Quarter. They are allowed to visit the concession stands but have to be back, ready to play by the beginning of the 4th Quarter

Andrew takes a 3rd Quarter break to grab a bite to eat with us in the stands.

Here's Penney being courted by the salesman for Infiniti . . . or was it Lexus? Lamborghinni perhaps? After a while they all just sort of blend in together.

The Great Car Hunt will eventually end in late December. We think.

Of course, we may have to do a bit of tidying up in the garage so that the new car can be properly housed!
