August, 2008

Most of the month of August was spent (a) working on the "dormitory project" or working on the boat (we've been having trouble with the roller-furling system on the headsail). But we did manage to squeeze into the local college "rec" center to see and hear putative Presidential candidate Barack Obama, who spoke there August 5th.

The crowds came early; we arrived about 12:15 and the rally began about 2:30 (the desk spaces in the foreground were for the bus media and included wi-fi [the network was named "soapbox"!]).

Here we are, a self-portrait! (Andrew is the past master of this art; we're learning from him!)

Here's the candidate; it's a lousy picture (just too far and too little light for my pocket digital camera), but hey! How often do you get to see a Presidential candidate?

We also found time for a sailboat ride with close friends, Gary and Marianne Cline and their delightful children, Kate and Ross. Kate's unofficial sister, Susannah Bender came along, too.

Above, left to right: Gary, Maryanne, Kate, Ross, and Susannah.
